Designboom- in his new aluminum thermal spray series, british designer max lamb has hand carved a collection of seemingly prehistoric objects out of polystyrene which he has then finished with a metallic coating. presented in london for the first time as part of gallery salon 94 design‘s booth during the frieze art fair, the series comprises a variety of objects including chairs, tables, shelving units, and planters, all of which can be commissioned in copper, bronze, or aluminum.

exclusively presented by salon 94 design, the new aluminum thermal series reflects the designer’s motto, ‘let’s just make it instead of drawing it’, through the rough cuts and uneven edges of the pieces. born in st. austell, cornwall, in 1980, max lamb now lives and works in london, where he creates his signature hand-crafted pieces combining traditional design methods and natural materials with digital techniques. he presented the first thermal spray chair at the 11th international festival of design at the villa noailles, hyères, france, and was also commissioned by luxury fashion brand acne studios to design pieces of a similar style for its new york and san francisco flagship stores.
